| 1st Half (2-0) OUTSTANDING! - On a heavy muddy pitch, AFC Sudbury started very well indeed and within minutes shot on goal but keeper saved. Shortly after, a weak clearance fell to defender, Dodd whose powerful shot just drifted wide. Cowley played extremely well throughout showing superb skill and awareness on the ball, dribbling past many before keeper came out to save. AFC Sudbury midfield worked extremely hard to maintain control, Craig striking his first for the home team (1-0). On the left side, Mathews, Marshall and Lingard linked & combined well crossing into the box; when a weak clearance fell to Malone whose shot hit the back of the net (2-0). 2nd Half (8-2) Re-focused AFC Sudbury came out with a purpose and scored within minutes of kick-off, a well taken individual goal by Addison (3-0). Within almost seconds, Craig forcefully broke through the visitor’s backline to increase his tally for the team (4-0). AFC Sudbury’s defense was superb with notable performances from Dodd, Brett & *Heywood (*Managers Man of the Match), consistently tackling & blocking every Athletic effort. Full credit to Colchester for not giving up, pressing the home side backline at every opportunity and forcing a few goalmouth tense moments. Craig fired up to get his hatrick again forcefully stripped the visitors defense to finally dribble the ball over the line (5-0). Cowley then got the next with another great individual effort (6-0) and then centre forward Addison (7-0). The visitors then struck back on a counter break (7-1). Addison achieved his hatrick (8-1) and Athletic finished strongly (8-2).
An extremely valuable & well earned 3 points! Considering the same result was reversed on the team’s previous meeting, it is obvious that AFC Sudbury’s form is changing wind for the final half of the season. Keep it up lads! (Great Team Effort)! Thanks to Dave Malone for the report |
