PostSubject: U15's tigers v Thurston    Sun Mar 25, 2012 8:01 pm

For the second time in the space of a few weeks AFC hosted Thurston youth in the Ipswich and Suffolk A league. With this being top against second all was to play for. AFC Started with a third new formation against Thurston and made a bright start working the ball into wide areas and looking a threat going forward. With the game seeming to be equal Thurston took the lead but AFC respond soon after when Sam Bayliss linked with Richie Abbot who placed beyond the Thurston keeper two level. AFC then got a second when neat passing saw the ball go into Charlie Poole who planted the ball past the keeper with the outside of his boot. Thurston then got back level following a set play but with minutes of the first half remaining Tom Wingfield burst through and his effort across the keeper went in the bottom corner to send AFC in at half time with 3-2 lead.

The second half started well for AFC when a Harry Fryer long throw was headed in by Wingfield and shortly after Bayliss got himself on the score sheet with a well taken effort. With all the play being with AFC we where awarded a free kick 25 yards from goal that Wingfield stepped up to put in the bottom corner. Thurston pulled a goal back to sent up a good last twenty minutes but AFC had other ideas when Harry Liskus scored the goal of the game with a chip shot over the keeper from 30 yards. With time ticking down AFC kept the ball in the corner before working it out and a cross from Bayliss allowed Josh welsford to head in at the back post. Full time AFC 8 Thurston 3

A great second half display from the boys. They kept the ball and made the correct decisions in possession. Out of possession they worked hard for the team and never seemed troubled from open play. the boys will travel to Stowupland next weekend knowing that if results go there way the could be crowned league champions if not they need 5 points from their final 5 games
