AFC hosted Bury Town and where looking to complete there third double of the season. The first 15 minutes was quiet a cagey affair with neither side creating anything going forward. However that changed when a fine through ball from Tom Wingfield allowed Sam Bayliss to get free a fire home with a fine finish. Shortly after this AFC doubled there lead when the Bury town defense allowed a high ball into the box bounce and Harry Liskus finished on the half volley. AFC then put the game out of Bury reach when Bayliss beat a defender before fire past the keeper.
half time AFC 3 up
Bury came out the quicker after half time and there forward went through and beat keeper Jamie Williams to make it 3-1, this was the first time all season that AFC have conceded a goal in the second half and with the center back pairing of Harry Fryer and jack Pidgeon in good form it looked like it would be the only goal AFC would conceded. AFC went on the attack again and a cross in from Wingfield saw Harry Liskus volley in with the outside of his foot to score, this was the best volley i have seen in youth football (lets hope he don't read this!) AFC then got there fifth when Steven Chinery weighted a perfect ball into the path of Bayliss who fired in for his hat trick. AFC nearly made it six when a corner was cut back to the edge of the box where Aaron Bates saw his drive cleared of the line.
full time AFC 5 Bury Town 1
AFC perhaps weren't at there best in parts today and in others where brilliant. What was pleasing was to see us convert all of our clear cut chances something perhaps we have been guilty of not doing all season, our forward movement was good all morning. One thing we need to work at is our transition from attack to defense as there where a few occasions where we where outnumbered in our half.
Next week see's us travel to Thurston for a League cup semi final tie that should be a good contest as we beat Thurston at there place and they beat us at home. all the details will be posted on the forum when they have been confirmed.
